GREETINGS FROM THE PASTOR
Reverend James (Brother Jim) McLendon
For the past several years our United Methodist denomination has actively promoted the slogan “Open Minds--Open Hearts--Open Doors.” The Homer United Methodist Church in downtown Homer, Georgia has endorsed that message as well as promoted a theme of its own: “Where The Doors Are Always Open.”
Indeed, the doors of our church are always open--literally. The massive doors at the entrance to the Sanctuary Building are never locked. In the same way, our minds and hearts are always open to any and everyone who would pass our way. Within the fellowship we consider ourselves members of the same family. People who are looking for a church which is “like family” might want to seriously consider making our church their spiritual home. We love the Lord and one another, remembering always what that little chorus teaches:
“We are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord; and, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
Homer Methodist remains a small membership church, although we have grown from a handful of members several years ago to a present membership of 335. Many who are a part of our fellowship drive dozens of miles each week to attend our worship services at 8:45 a.m. And 11:00 a.m. The church literally serves much of Northeast Georgia. We would be honored to have you visit us to see if you think the drive is worth your while. We hope that it will be. Whatever your decision, we trust you will remember always a small membership church in rural Homer, Georgia which continually strives to be best known as another family of God’s people whose minds, hearts, and doors are open with love to everyone who passes their way.
Peace and Love
Rev. James McLendon
